Flaw

Cosmic weakness bound to every Aspect — the price paid to the Spell for the gift.

The Flaw is the flip-side of the Aspect: a weakness, compulsion, or vulnerability imposed by the Spell. It balances the power granted.

Examples

  • Clear Conscience (Sunny): he cannot kill an innocent without becoming physically ill for days
  • Bound: must keep one's promises
  • Wandering: cannot stay in one place
  • Frail: heightened physical vulnerability

Mechanics

The Flaw is inalienable. It is inscribed in the soul and inherited by the bearer's Shadows (transformed echoes). Certain artifacts — like Weaver's Mask with its [Simple Trick] enchantment — can temporarily reverse a Flaw's effect, turning weakness into strength for a window of time.

Narrative Weight

The Flaw defines character as much as the Aspect does. For Sunny, Clear Conscience is both his curse and his moral compass.
